Things for you to know about the Year 3 this term:
English focus: We will be focusing on two books this term 'The Iron Man' and 'Pinocchio'. These are linked in with our topic of Marvellous materials and we will be creating sets of instructions and doing some story writing.
Math focus: This term we will focusing on addition and subtraction of numbers within 10,000 and time . We will look at using column addition and subtraction with larger numbers and move on to time in order to tell the time on a 12 and 24 hour clock whilst also calculating time. E.g. Sian leaves the house at 2:15 and it takes her 15 minutes to get to the bus stop. What time does she arrive? Please ensure that children are learning their times tables at home.
Topic: Our topic this term is 'Marvellous Materials' . We are sure that the pupils will love learning about the properties of materials, natural and manmade mateirlas, conducting experiments and moving on to recycling and looking at plastic pollution. We have an interesting and exciting trip planned to Porthcawl beach to learn all about the effects of plastic pollution. It's a topic that encompasses a wide range of AOLEs such as Expressive Arts, Humanities, Mathematics, Language, Health and Well-being and STEM and will awaken curiosity though lots of time spent investigating materials.
Welsh: Alongside daily Helper Heddiw questions/phrases and Criw Cymraeg sessions, this term we will looking at the body parts, feelings and friends and me.
Some phrases we will be using is:
Dw i'n hoffi...
Dw i ddim yn hoffi...
Mae ___ tost da fi...
achos...
Dw i'n dwylu ar...
Health and Well-being: This is at the heart of our work. It is key to ensure all children are happy and safe coming to school and are happy while they are with us. For our weekly PE sessions we are focusing on dynamic balance and ball skills for this term. During our wellbeing sessions we will be looking at 'Dreams and goals' It is based on asiprations for their future and things they need to do in order to achieve these goals even if barriers present themselves.
