Class 7 / Dosbarth 7
Croeso i Dosbarth 7! Welcome to Year 2 at Cyfarthfa Park Primary. This year your class teacher is Miss Jones and your LSA in Mr Johnson.
We start our day at 8.45 when the Dane Street door opens and end our day at 3.20.
Our PE day is a Monday, while the weather is on our side, PE will take place outdoors. Please send your child into school WEARING their PE kit.
Home Reading in Year 2 works a little differently to Year 1 . Children have a Home Reading Book that is expected to be brought to class every day for a reading session in the morning. Children take their reading books home every evening to practise at home. We change reading books every Tuesday and Friday. Please make a comment in your child's Reading Record to let us know how they did.
In Year 2 pupils are introduced to Google Classroom. Homework will be set via Google Classroom every Friday. Homework could be an Activity for you and your child to complete via Google Classroom or it may be that you will be asked to access a different online resource or it could be a practical task.... keep your eyes peeled on our Google Classroom feed!
As always pupils are expected to bring in to school a water bottle and fruit daily.
All items need to be clearly labelled.
Outdoor learning remains important in Year 2 and so we would like for you to ensure your child has wellies and a raincoat available.

Talk for writing
This term our story is How the World was made. Every day we practise learning parts of the story using a text map and physical actions developed by our class. Every day we build on our knowledge of the story by learning the next sentence and over the term each individual becomes more confident at retelling the story orally.
"Children who are read to at home, or who come from an oral tradition of storytelling, embed such patterns without really knowing it, as if some form of linguistic osmosis was at work. At this early stage, it is significant that the child is ‘hearing’ the language. This matters because we learn language by hearing it and then by saying it. So, storytelling and rhyme chanting are powerful aspects of acquiring language patterns that might not be met in everyday talk." Pie Corbett 2008.
Keep your eyes peeled for our text map and videos of our retelling.
Inspire Maths
This term the focus will be Division, Money and numbers to 100 including addition and subtraction.
Division - To represent division as sharing equally, to understand division as grouping.
Money - to recognise and name different notes and coins, match coins to equivalent sets, count of a given amount of money, solve problems in relation to money.
Numbers to 100 - To read write and recognise numbers to 100. To order and compare 2 digit numbers. To partition a 2 digit number and say what each part represents.
We develop our understanding of numerical concepts using the Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract approach. We enjoy discussing our ideas with our maths partners, talking about what we can see in our Inspire Maths textbooks then demonstrating our understanding using equipment before moving on to recording activities in our books.

In Year 2 we are working hard to help our pupils become independent, active learners. A vital part of your child's education lies in continuous and enhanced provision.
We work with the pupils to plan enhanced provision challenges that promote application of skills that have been taught during focused tasks.
